Adopt A Family
Adopt A Family provides subsidies for rental assistance, security deposits, utility payments, food vouchers and auto repair. By providing basic assistance to families, Adopt A Family helps prevent the dangerous slide into homelessness for many families who would otherwise be without help. The organization takes immediate actions to help families stabilize their lives. It works with parents to develop goals, make action plans and follow through toward a better life.
Angel Giving Tree
JCPenney and The Salvation Army have joined forces again this holiday season to give joy to even more children and seniors in need through an online Angel Giving Tree program. The Salvation Army Angel Giving Tree online presented by JCPenney builds on the legacy of an annual Christmas tradition that provides clothing, special-needs gifts and other wish list items to kids and senior citizens.
Grameen Foundation
Grameen Foundation's mission is to enable the poor, especially the poorest, to create a world without poverty. The Grameen Foundation was founded in 1997 by friends of Grameen Bank to help microfinance practitioners and spread the Grameen philosophy worldwide.
Kiva
Kiva's mission is to connect people, through lending, for the sake of alleviating poverty. Kiva empowers individuals to lend to an entrepreneur across the globe. By combining microfinance with the Internet, Kiva is creating a global community of people connected through lending. Kiva was born of the following beliefs: people are by nature generous, and will help others if given the opportunity to do so in a transparent, accountable way; the poor are highly motivated and can be very successful when given an opportunity; and by connecting people we can create relationships beyond financial transactions, and build a global community expressing support and encouragement of one another.
Samaritan's Purse
Samaritan's Purse is a nondenominational evangelical Christian organization providing spiritual and physical aid to hurting people around the world. Since 1970, Samaritan's Purse has helped meet needs of people who are victims of war, poverty, natural disasters, disease, and famine with the purpose of sharing God's love through His Son, Jesus Christ.
Water For LIFE
Water for LIFE drills wells for suffering communities, delivering fresh, clean water. A new well offers relief in so many ways: it stops disease, promotes healthy bodies, and provides the means for families to become self-sufficient by growing their own gardens and caring for their own animals.
Clean water is absolutely vital. With clean water, these thirsty communities can do more than merely survive – THEY CAN TRULY HAVE LIFE! Just as this water brings them physical life and health, these wells stand for years as a reminder of the Living Water: Jesus Christ. The clean water they receive every single day lets them know that God truly loves them!
We Are Family
We Are Family serves seniors in the Shaw, North Capitol Street, Adams-Morgan, Petworth, and Columbia Heights neighborhoods. We bring advocacy, services, organizing, and companionship into the homes of the elderly, while helping to build friendships across boundaries like race, class, religion, age, culture, and sexual orientation. Most of the organization's work is done by volunteers, coordinated by a small staff that has two decades of experience serving seniors in these neighborhoods.
